Joseph Williams (Surry County Regiment). 1778, a Captain under Col. Charles McDowell (Burke County Regiment). 1779, in Rutherford County. 1779-1780, a Captain under Maj. Robert Porter and Col. Andrew Hampton. At the battle of Kings Mountain, SC under Col. Benjamin Cleveland (Wilkes County Regiment). 1781, at the Siege of Ninety-Six, SC under Lt. Col. James Miller.
