Biography

1778-1779, a Private under Capt. James Kendrick and Col. Ambrose Ramsey. In the Purrysburg, SC expedition, no named engagements. 1779-1780, a Private under Capt. James Herndon (his father), attached to Lt. Col. Archibald Lytle (a Continental officer). At Charleston, SC, erecting breastworks, etc., discharged before the town surrendered. 1781, a Private under Capt. John Knight, attached to Col. Francois DeMalmedy (NC Light Dragoons). 1781, also a Private under Capt. Joseph Rosser and Col. Ambrose Ramsey. POW ath the incident known as Chatham Court House, escaped after four or five months. Born on 6/14/1763.
