Was a Lieutenant. 1776-1779, a Captain under Col. Evan Shelby, Sr. (his father). July 1778, at a fort on Beaver Creek with about 30 men. The fort could hold ~500 people. Fall of 1779, a Major. Soon, a full Colonel in the Sullivan County Regiment.
