Promoted to Major and transferred to 4th NC Regiment on 10/4/1777.

A Lt. Colonel on 7/17/1778 (back-dated - happened on 7/17/1782).

1780, in militia leading a unit simply called the NC Light Infantry (NC State Troops).

Early 1781, leading a Surry County Regiment attached to BG Andrew Pickens (SC), chasing Lt. Col. Lord Cornwallis.

Mid-1781, commander of the newly-recreated 3rd NC Regiment - at battle of Eutaw Springs (SC).

2/6/1782, back in recreated 4th NC Regiment under Lt. Col. Archibald Lytle.

Resigned on 1/1/1783.
