From Chester District. First served under Capt. John Nixon, Lt. Col. Col. John Winn, Col. Joseph Kershaw. 1780, in Sumter's Brigade, unit unknown. Taken prisoner by Loyalists, in Camden jail, then sent to Charleston. Escaped after nine months. 1781, served under Capt. John Turner, Maj. John Adair.
