1776, a Private under Capt. James Denton, Lt. Col. Drury Gee, and Col. Peter Dauge in the newly-created 2nd Battalion of Militia. Unit disbanded on 8/13/1776. Lived in Bute County. 1777, moved to Chatham County. 1778-1779, a Private under Capt. John Colclough and Col. Thomas Eaton. In the Purrysburg, SC expedition, no named engagements. 1781, a Private under Capt. Jacob Duckworth and Col. Francois DeMalmedy in the NC Light Dragoons. Matthew and Francis were his brothers.
