Was a Captain and a Major. 12/23/1776, a Lt. Colonel under Col. Abraham Sheppard in the newly-created 1st Battalion of Volunteers. This unit was disbanded on 4/10/1777. He returned to Halifax County and was a Lt. Colonel under Col. Willis Alston. April 1778, promoted to full Colonel when Willis Alston was dismissed.
