First in NC unit. Nov. 1778 made a Lt, under Col. John Thomas, Sr. Allegedly a Captain in SC 3rd Regiment when taken POW at the Fall of Charleston, paroled after three months. Then a Captain under Col. John Thomas Jr. (1st Spartan Regiment), Lt. Col. Henry White, Lt. Col. Levi Casey (Little River District Regiment), Col. Thomas Brandon (2nd Spartan Regiment), and Col. Benjamin Roebuck (Roebuck's Battalion of Spartan Regiment).
