Biography

1776, a Private under Capt. John Griffin McRee for six months.

First lived in Bladen County, but moved to Rowan County and joined NC Militia there. 1779-1780, a Private under Capt. Johnson Sloan, attached to Lt. Col. Frederick Hambright (Lincoln County Regiment) and Col. Andrew Hampton (Rutherford County Regiment). In Charleston, SC erecting breastworks, etc., discharged before the town surrendered. 1780, also a Private under Capt. Hugh Gilmore (Cumberland County Regiment). Late 1780/early 1781, a Private under Capt. James Crawford and Maj. James Hall. POW at the battle of Cowan's Ford, held until October 1781. Born on 10/23/1759 in Scotland. W7429.
